Less of me, more of God
Tirone writes, "He [Jesus] must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.
- John 3:30, New Living Translation
The Word tells us that we are called to worship God. When we do this, our purpose needs to be to bless Gods heart. We do not worship God to win the Lords approval or to compensate for all the stuff we do when were not worshiping surely Jesus Christ already took care of that."
We worship God to offer up the praise and honour that God is due, as a response from our innermost core as we acknowledge the sovereignty of an all-loving, yet all-powerful Creator. From the depths of our hearts, we want to give God glory for everything that God is, and for all that God has done and is doing in our lives.
As we draw into a place of intimacy in our worship, exalting the Lord with words of adoration, with deep meditation on the awesome attributes of God, our awareness of Who God really is begins to grow, and our awareness of self gradually decreases. Worship draws us from an inward focus on self to an outward focus on God.
Our jaded view of God begins to be corrected as we ask God up to take up the throne in our lives. Through our step of faith, the Holy Spirit fills us with a peace beyond comprehension as our spirit begins to over-ride our flesh, as the reality of Gods greatness dissipates all doubt and fear. When were hurting, our pain is diminished as our Heavenly Parent comforts us, and reminds us that God is caring for us, watching over us.
As we open our hearts in worship to our loving Parent, God is faithful to respond and meets with us in powerful ways. Now dont be mistaken, God can meet with us and consume us, and yet it can still be the most gentle experience for us Gods presence is not always accompanied with crashes of cymbals amidst thundering fires in the skies no, our preconceived ideas must be laid to rest for God cant fit Godself into them. As we surrender to God and God touches us, I believe we are never the same again. A surrendered heart of worship is a heart that God can heal, and a heart that God can start to mould into Christ-likeness. It is then that we can begin to live a life of worship, not just in song, but in everything we do.
