Getting to the place of my Resolve

pastor_resolve.jpgHi Friends,

Marietjie and I went to watch a game at the new stadium in Durban, with a couple of friends.

It was an amazing event to attend. Being at the soccer world cup, sitting among almost 65000 people, was, at the same time, both overwhelming and so exciting.

People in the stadium were all blowing their vuvus (my short version for our Vuvuzela's),  dressed in their team colours. But ultimately, this was about two teams coming together to win, having a determination, a firmness of purpose to beat the other!

If you look at your life's direction, do you have a firmness of purpose? Is there a goal you are aiming for?

Let me try to share with you, some of my thoughts on how you can get to the place of your resolve.

resolve2.jpgLet's perhaps first take a quick look at the meaning of the word "resolve":

RESOLVE (Noun)
means: Determination, or firmness of purpose to do something.

To get to the place of our resolve, we must have passion and purpose. The two go together; one without the other doesn't work. If you have passion but no purpose, what do you do with all your passion? If you have purpose without passion, how do you get to do what you need to do?

We are in the race because we have a goal, to finish the race!

When England played against Algeria in the Soccer world cup here in SA, the commentators said that England's team had lost their "heart" for the game and therefore had no passion to drive them. They can be doing all the right things technically, but without passion & heart, there is nothing to drive them to get to that goalpost. If they had played with heart, even though they might not have focused on the technical aspects, they might have won because the passion in their hearts would've pushed them to score.

But the commentators said that they played like they were asleep! (No offence to English supporters! :) - One can say the same about our Bafana team... now I am in trouble!)

Anyway, sometimes we need spiritual CPR to revive our hearts, and get breath back into our lungs so that we have life in us again!

We sometimes walk around looking like we are so defeated that we could never get to the 'goalposts', like we have run out of breath!

We sometimes need spiritual CPR, a revival of our hearts, to get to the place of our Resolve!

RESOLVE (verb) means: Finding a solution.

Finding a solution comes when our “heart cry” is the same as God’s heart cry.

It is when my heart is flowing in sync with God’s purpose for my life.

resolve3.jpgJoel 2:13..."Rend your hearts not your garments." Another favourite scripture of mine, that this topic reminds me about, is: Matt. 6:21 "Where your treasure is, there is your heart also."

So, to start with:

1. Wake up from your slumber (Rom 13:11). Get some Spiritual CPR, let God breathe new breath into you, let God revive your spirit, so that your passion and desire to do what God is calling you to do, is ignited.

2. Make sure your heart cry is the same as God's heart cry for your life (Joel 2:13). Winning is never about just doing the right things outwardly, but it is an attitude of the heart. That starts inwardly.

3. Don't go it alone. Make sure you are facing in the right direction and moving toward your goal, with the right people in the right circles, so that you are going to the right destination. Players in a soccer match that are on the same team, are all working together, going in the same direction to get to the place of their resolve, which is to score a goal.

Our end goal is Christ; our now goal, is making disciples for Jesus. So don't let the "technical stuff" get in the way of you following your purpose. Hear the voice of Jesus as He says, "Follow me," and it will drown out all the other noise, as you make your way to the place of your resolve.

There was a sea of orange supporters, cheering their team. Unity is powerful. That is why our heart cry must be in sync with God's heart cry.

See you on the field! :)
