About Us

Who We Are

church.jpg We are a church for all people. We are a Charismatic inclusive and affirming church, which means we have a major focus in our ministry to the gay and lesbian community and we do not discriminate against anyone regardless of  sexual orientation or any other "ism".

We believe that the face of the church in the 21st century is going to change radically to emulate the face of Christ in a way which does not compromise our faith, but seeks to resist the boundaries so often placed on the church by human limitation, concerning Christ’s love. We want to change the negative connotation that many have come to know regarding the face and purpose of the global Church and we want to lift high the banner of victory that belongs to the body of Christ.

“Christ has come to change our hearts, not our fingerprints” - Rev. Deborah Bell

church2.jpgChrist’s love is unconditional, yet many churches still put conditional love on the gay and lesbian community, by saying, “You are welcome here, BUT you must change!” I don’t believe that is the message Christ gives us at all. Nor do I believe that the scriptures condemn homosexuality but rather promiscuity in all its forms whether you are homosexual or heterosexual.

Our church provides a safe place to worship for the gay and lesbian community to find wholeness in Christ and grow into who God has originally created gay and lesbian people to be; not those who stereotype Christians want people to be. (Rev. Deborah Bell).

In September 1997 Deo Gloria Family Church KZN was birthed (We were affiliated with Deo Gloria Family Church, Pretoria, by name, as we shared the same vision and spiritually witnessed with them. However we remain an independent Body and a pioneering church in Durban).

"There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." Gal.3:28

Our Ministries

We believe that in these times the offices of Apostle and Prophet are being restored to the church; they have always been included in the fivefold ministry in the bible, but until recently had been excluded from the church. The office of Apostle and the prophetic are being restored to accelerate God's divine strategy in the earth.

We believe in every member ministry, where the greater body of Christ is being raised up to restore the church of God.

We encourage all our members to be actively involved in extending the kingdom of God through these ministries.

Ministry of Evangelism

We believe in the mission laid out in the book of Matthew 28:18-20, that all of us are called to witness:

evang2.jpgThen Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of God and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

As Christians, we have a mandate to share the good news of Jesus Christ with others. We, as a church, pledge to reach the unreached through effective witness and evangelism.

Members of our congregation visit clubs and bars and spread the Word of God, making use of pamphlets and visiting cards through our outreach program. We are also affiliated with with other gay and lesbian organisation with whom we network on a regular basis. If you'd like more information on this program, please contact us. Be on the lookout for the outreach team at their next visit!

Ministry of Prayer

"I've posted watchpeople on your walls, Jerusalem. Day and night they keep at it, praying, calling out, reminding GOD to remember." (Isaiah 62:6, The Message)

prayer.jpg

DGFC has a powerful anointed and prophetic prayer ministry, which Pastor Deborah often refers to as the backbone of the church. We are a group of ordinary people longing to do extraordinary things for Jesus Christ, to bring glory and honour to God.

Our vision is to bring about radical transformation in our church, community, nation and the world, through the power of prayer.

We meet once a week, where we pray strategically to fulfill our church's mission, seeking out the heart and vision of God through the Spirit for our church, the nations and all people.

We regularly go on Prayer Walks in spiritually signifcant areas in our City to bring about breakthrough. We encourage others from the congregation to join us to experience the power of praying for others and our City.

We know that God has called people of prayer who will dwell in the presence of God, who bring forth prophetic word and who immerse themselves in the Word. During these times, intercessors must pray unceasingly as we see the bibilical prophecies rapidly being fulfilled.  Prayer warriors must be watchful, seeking out the heart of God to change spiritual atmospheres and to stand in the gap for all.

We trust that God will make us faithful in the task which God has set aside for us and speak out in faith the words in Ezra: Ezr 8:23 "So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and God answered our prayer."

Ministry of Praise & Worship

True worshipers will worship God in spirit and truth: for they are the kind of worshipers God seeks. God is spirit, and God's worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.
(John 4:23b-24, NIV)

Worship takes us from a place in the flesh into the deep presence of God. We serve a living God, who calls us to praise and worship in song and adoration.

Deo Gloria Family Church has been blessed with gifted musicians who understand the blessing received from being able to lead services in truly Spirit-filled worship. Please contact Pastor Deborah if you would like to know more about this great ministry.

Ministry of Teaching and Preaching

preaching.jpgAll scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that everyone in the Lord may thoroughly equipped for every good work.
(2 Timothy 3:16-17, NIV)

We believe in the centrality and emphasis of the proclaimed word of God as revealed through the Holy Spirit. We believe in teaching the deep principles of truth that scripture has laid out for us and that it is vital to the growth of a healthy body of Christ.

God is always looking for people that will be raised up in service for the work of the Lord. Remember that God wants us to be available when called for service.

Home Group Ministry

Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith... Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess. And let us consider how we may spur one another on to good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together... but let us encourage one another all the more as we see the day approaching.
(Hebrews 10:23-25, NIV)

home-group-2.jpgWe believe in every member ministry and it is our goal to expand our knowledge base of the scriptures and our growth as Christians, through Home cell fellowship groups. We believe these form the core of the church.

We meet once a week for fellowship and Bible study. Thursday evenings are jam-packed with teaching and sharing and is a pillar of strength for our congregation.

On occasion we meet socially and get to know each other better. Please watch out for the next occasion by checking our Calendar regularly.
